After surpassing the limit on technical fouls and facing a suspension, Diana Taurasi has gotten a reprieve from the WNBA. Taurasi and Phoenix Mercury teammate Natasha Cloud were each hit with technical fouls in their team’s 97-79 loss to the Las Vegas Aces on Sunday. It was the seventh technical foul of the season for both players, putting them over the season limit and putting each in line to be suspended for Tuesday’s game against the Atlanta Dream.

But the league made a change on the call against Taurasi, who had been assessed a technical foul for something she said as her team was taking the ball up the court late in the third quarter. Taurasi protested the call, saying she was only speaking with a teammate. The league may have bought the argument. As reporter Meghan R. Hall noted in a post on X, the WNBA announced that the foul against Taurasi had been rescinded, taking away the automatic suspension she faced for Tuesday’s game.

“Per the WNBA, Natasha Cloud has been suspended for one game without pay after receiving her 7th technical foul of the season Sunday,” Hall wrote. “Upon league review, Diana Taurasi’s 7th technical foul was rescinded. Her total stays at 6.”
