The majority of people are familiar with Dinah Mattingly as the wife of NBA legend Larry Bird. It is unnecessary to introduce the three-time NBA champion again, but who is the former power forward’s wife?

Many people consider Larry Bird to be among the best basketball players of his generation, if not the best. The venerable former NBA player captured several titles in the 1980s Finals, winning them in 1981, 1984, and 1986.

Not only was Bird the only player to win Rookie of the Year, Most Valuable Player, Finals MVP, All-Star MVP, Coach of the Year, and Executive of the Year—the latter two coming after retirement—but he also secured the Most Valuable Player award for the regular season three times, which further solidified his legacy.

Dinah Mattingly is the wife of basketball icon Larry Bird. Despite her keenness to remain out of the public eye, she was always present at her husband’s games before his retirement.

She is American and was born in Vigo County, Indiana. Dinah studied physical education at Indiana State University, graduating from college and becoming a physical education teacher at North Side High School in French Lick, Indiana.

She reportedly met Larry in college, but the pair did not become an item until 1986, after completing her undergraduate degree.
