Leeds United’s investment into youth signings was a failure for a lot of players, but there were a few exceptions that have shown their talents and worth at Elland Road, while a select few have managed to prove quality since leaving.

Victor Orta’s time at Leeds is largely seen a negative one, despite being the man to convince Marcelo Bielsa to move to Elland Road, he was at fault for a number of the questionable signings made that eventually brought his own demise as director of football.

A lot of the odd transfer developments came with youth signings made by Orta and the recruitment team, only for them to be sold for nominal fees before they even made their debut.

Rafa Mujica barely made any sort of impact on the Leeds first team outside of pre-season appearances, having been bought in 2019 while Marcelo Bielsa was at the club.

Instead, he was sent out on loan four times before Las Palmas took the gamble and signed him permanently, but he only spent a year in his native Spain before moving across the Iberian Peninsula to Arouca in Portugal.

Two seasons with Arouca saw the striker’s form explode into life with 37 goals and five assists in 68 outings – a goal involvement every 0.61 games.

Such form earned him a lucrative £8.6million move to Qatar club Al-Sadd, to which Leeds netted a £140,000 solidarity fee as part of his development.
