In an attempt to acquire Jonathan David, a striker for Lille, this summer, Chelsea is in talks with his agents.

In the past two seasons, only Kylian Mbappe and Alexandre Lacazette have scored more goals in Ligue 1 than the 24-year-old.

David has just one year left on his contract, and Lille’s president Olivier Letang has stated that he is free to depart.

Other teams, like Tottenham and Manchester United, have also given him some thought.

The Blues have not yet made a bid, but because Chelsea’s owners, BlueCo, also own Strasbourg in Ligue 1, they are rumored to have a good working relationship with Letang.

David has been associated with Chelsea for a long time; claims of their interest in him date back to 2022. Everton, Manchester United, and Arsenal were said to have shown interest in him back in 2020.

The player, who was born in Brookyln, started his professional career in Belgium with Gent, where he amassed 37 goals in 83 games to secure a transfer to France.

David has been growing at Lille for the past four years, and under Christophe Galtier, he played a key role in their 2020–21 championship campaign.

He is currently Lille’s third-highest goalscorer of all time with 84 goals in 183 games, including 26 in each of the previous two seasons.

He gained Champions League experience in 2021–2022, as the forward participated in all 16 of Chelsea’s games and scored three goals in eight games.

He participated in every league game during the previous campaign, scoring 19 goals in Ligue 1, second only to Kylian Mbappe’s total.

David is just as damaging on the global scene. He leads Canada’s line in the Copa America this summer and has 26 goals in 49 games for the national team.
