On August 31, 2024, the Oregon State Beavers will open the season at home against Idaho State. The number of days before the first kickoff will be represented by the jersey numbers of notable current and former Beavers, as mini-profiles in The Oregonian/OregonLive will count down the days.

Jackson, Steven
Bio: In 2001, Jackson was recruited by the Beavers from Eldorado High School in Nevada. He proceeded to emerge as possibly OSU’s finest running back ever.

Important facts: In his rookie year of 2001, Jackson took his time in the spotlight, providing backup for Ken Simonton. Jackson gained 380 yards and five touchdowns through the air that season.

When he assumed the starting role in 2002, he ran for 1,690 yards and 15 touchdowns, which is a program record (sixth all-time).

Jackson amassed 1,545 yards (third all-time) and 19 rushing touchdowns (tied for second most) in his final season (2003).

Jackson received two season-long first-team All-Pac-10 honors and a 2003 third-team All-America designation.

Four of the top ten rushing performances in program history are owned by Jackson. He is ranked third with 239 yards (including three touchdowns) against California in 2003.

Jackson owns the record with four 200-yard games and is tied for second place with 19 100-yard games.

He gained 3,625 yards (fourth all-time) and 39 touchdowns (third) on 743 carries in 36 games.

In 2023, Jackson received inductions into both the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame and the Oregon State Athletics Hall of Fame.

NFL: In the first round of the 2004 NFL draft, Jackson was chosen by the St. Louis Rams.

Over his twelve-year career, Jackson (nine with the Rams) amassed 11,438 yards and 69 touchdowns by rushing. Along with it, he caught 461 passes for 3,683 yards and nine touchdowns.

He was selected twice for the second team All-Pro and for three Pro Bowls.
