RB Leipzig is certain they will prevail in their pursuit of Man United target Xavi Simons.

A new report this afternoon asserts that Manchester United’s interest in Xavi Simons of Paris Saint-Germain is unlikely to materialize, just as rumors of the team’s intentions were beginning to surface.

The 22-year-old played 42 games on loan at RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga last season, where he finished with 10 goals and 15 assists.

Leipzig has been eager to get the player—who is allegedly not a favorite of PSG manager Luis Enrique—back on loan for the current campaign, but they have competition from Bayern Munich, who were reportedly prepared to pay for him.

Simons’ admirer, United manager Erik ten Hag, recently gave a complimentary review of the player. This gave rise to rumors that the Dutchman would be interested in joining the Red Devils at Old Trafford.

A rumor even said that a double swap deal, with Manuel Ugarte and Simons moving to Old Trafford and Sancho and Bruno Fernandes leaving, was being discussed. Meanwhile, PSG’s interest in Jadon Sancho appeared to have offered United a negotiating chip in the contest.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano asserts, meanwhile, that PSG really does not wish to move the star.

Furthermore, Romano thinks—or at least thinks—that Leipzig is getting close to signing the gifted offensive midfield player for a second season-long loan.

Romano wrote on X this afternoon, “Understand RB Leipzig are now confident to get green light for Xavi Simons.”

“Transfer negotiations with Bayern are still ongoing, but Leipzig CEO Mintzlaff is pushing for Xavi’s return.”
