Rangers are interested in signing Marseille centre-back Bamo Meite, according to Adam Mser.

The Canal+ journalist reported via his personal X account [29 August] that the Gers face competition from Lens and Brest for the 23-year-old defender.

It is understood that an approach has been made and discussions are in progress ahead of the 30 August deadline, with the player ready to leave, though the Ligue 1 club have not received any offers yet.

Rangers to beat competition to Bamo Meite transfer?

Philippe Clement’s side have been searching for a new centre-back, and especially with Ben Davies’ move to Birmingham City, a signing is needed now more than ever.

Meite could be the right figure to join the ranks at Ibrox as he continues to develop his trade in Ligue 1, having only made eight league starts last season.

Boasting experience with Lorient and Marseille, including seven appearances in the Europa League, the 23-year-old could add some much-needed depth to the backline before the transfer window slams shut.

Clement currently has Leon Balogun, Robin Propper and John Souttar at his disposal, with Clinton Nsiala plying his trade in the B team after joining as a free agent following his AC Milan exit.
