Rafael Nadal’s 2024 has not been satisfactory so far and the Spaniard is thinking very carefully about his future. The former world number 1 has proven himself not to be at the level of top players and has never been competitive to win a big title this year.

The 22-time Grand Slam champion was eliminated in the first round at the French Open and in the second round at the Paris Olympics, suffering a clear defeat against his eternal rival Novak Djokovic (who won the match on the iconic Philippe Chatrier). The legend of Manacor reached only one final in 2024, on the red clay of Bastad, but was clearly beaten by a great Nuno Borges.

Rafa will miss the US Open – the last Grand Slam of the season – and return to action at the Laver Cup next month. This edition of the Laver Cup will take place in Berlin at the end of September and there will also be Carlos Alcaraz, with whom Nadal played doubles at the Olympics in Paris (the two Spaniards were eliminated in the quarterfinals).
