“Here we are, having to endure a minority’s view in the name of something called The National when there is nothing representative about what it means to be Scottish.”

On Sunday, I was browsing the headlines on the internet when I came across a front page that made me shudder with fear.

A Photoshopped picture of Spanish football player Rodri kicking an overweight, nude, and heavily tattooed England supporter in the shape of a football on a beach took center stage.

“Time for Revenge” is the headline.

Below: We want Spain to prevent England from winning, or otherwise we will not hear the treat of it.

If you have not seen it, it is difficult to describe the words’ and image’s impact. It was unpleasant to me. I felt perplexed and ashamed.

It babbled on about how England had ruined their nation, seized control of Spanish vacations, and… I had to put down the book.

I used social media to monitor the response and noticed outages everywhere, mostly from Scots. Even the most passionate Scot for “anyone but England.”

“This is not racist?” stated someone on X.
