Luis Suarez drops retirement hint that might now worry Inter Miami
Luis Suarez has dropped a potential hint surrounding his retirement that could cause some worry with Inter Miami.
The 37-year-old attacker is very much at the end of his illustrious career, with Suarez already admitting that Inter Miami will be the final club he plays for, with Lionel Messi also sharing a similar plan with the Herons.
Currently at the Copa America with Uruguay, Suarez’s age has never looked more apparent with the former FC Barcelona and Liverpool striker only making two appearances for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, both of them from the bench.
And Suarez has now dropped a potential hint around the prospect of retiring.
‘The flame of football is going out’ as Suarez drops retirement hint
Speaking to the press before yesterday’s Copa America clash with Brazil, Suarez admitted that he is trying to savor every moment in soccer with ‘the flame of football’ currently going out.
At 37-years-old and suffering from chronic knee problems, it’s perhaps no real surprise that Suarez’s mind is starting to wander into the realm of when retiring from soccer will be the right idea.
And based on the striker’s comments, that moment could be sooner than we realize, with the end of this year a potential opportunity for Suarez to hang up his boots and to call time on his incredible career.
Suarez said: “I am enjoying every moment very much. It’s something that, as I get older, you enjoy more and more because you know that the flame of football is going out. I’m just one more player, you’ve seen that. Whether I play or not, I’m happy with the part I’m doing and trying to help in any way I can.”
Inter Miami will hope Suarez can stick at it for 18 more months
With a contract that lasts until the end of 2025, Inter Miami will be hoping to the soccer gods that Suarez sticks around for the next 18 months, with the striker still and absolute animal in front of goal.
14 goals and seven assists in all competitions is an impressive tally for Suarez, who will be remembered as one of the most lethal forwards in modern soccer history and one of the best to ever play the game.
And for Inter Miami, they will be hopeful that Suarez can put off his retirement for as long as possible, with the attacker still having a lot to give despite his age and current fitness state.
