Latest news: James Furlong, a former defender for Bray and Shamrock Rovers, joins Wimbledon on loan from Hull City.

Wimbledon have added to their squad by securing left-back James Furlong on a season-long loan from Hull City.
Dublin-born Furlong has represented the Republic of Ireland from U16 to U21 levels. His early career saw him start with local club St Joseph’s Boys, followed by a stint at Bray Wanderers, which paved the way for his move to Shamrock Rovers. At just 16, Furlong made his senior debut for Shamrock Rovers.
Furlong’s journey continued with a move to Brighton & Hove Albion, where he spent over four years. He made his senior debut for Brighton in an EFL Cup tie against Forest Green Rovers.
Last season, Furlong gained crucial experience during a loan spell with Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership, making 16 appearances.
He then joined Hull City permanently in September and made his debut in an FA Cup match against Birmingham City earlier this year. Despite an injury setback in January, Furlong is now fit and eager to contribute to Wimbledon’s campaign in Sky Bet League Two.
“I want to play as many games as possible, push on as a player, and help the Club get back to League One as soon as possible,” said Furlong.
“Hopefully we can achieve that together this season. I want to make an impact here, blend in with the boys, and get settled in. Things developed quickly with the manager, and I only heard positive things. Wimbledon want me to show what I can do, help the team, and fit into the style of play. I can’t wait to get into the stadium and show the fans what I can do.”
Describing his style of play, Furlong added, “I’m very attack-minded, I like to get forward and get crosses in. I pride myself on defensive one-on-one duels. I like to be aggressive, stay on the front foot, and get up and down the pitch.”
Manager Johnnie Jackson expressed his excitement about the signing, stating, “James brings something to the squad that we are missing. He can play left-back or left wing-back, allowing us to be more flexible. He had a great loan experience in Scotland last season and sees this as the perfect next step. He is young, hungry, and wants to come in and help us win games.”
