Kwan Steven and Rutschman Adley Put OSU in the annals of MLB All-Stars..

ARLINGTON, Texas – On Tuesday, Steven Kwan and Adley Rutschman made a notable entrance into MLB All-Star history by starting together for the American League.

They became the second pair of college teammates to start in the same All-Star Game lineup, following USC’s Fred Lynn and Roy Smalley, who were Trojans in 1972 and 1973 and played in the 1979 All-Star Game in Seattle.

Oregon State also achieved a milestone by becoming the seventh NCAA program with at least two alumni starting for the same league in an All-Star Game. The Beavers joined an exclusive group that includes LSU (DJ LeMahieu and Alex Bregman, 2019), Georgia Tech (Jason Varitek and Mark Teixeira, 2005), Florida A&M (Andre Dawson and Vince Coleman, 1988), Minnesota (Dave Winfield, Paul Molitor, and Terry Steinbach, 1988), San Diego State (Graig Nettles and Tony Gwynn, 1985), and USC in 1979.

Kwan, making his All-Star debut, had one at-bat, a walk, and a run scored while playing left field. He contributed to a three-run third inning as the AL team secured a 5-3 victory.

Rutschman, starting as catcher and batting eighth, went 0-for-2. This was his second All-Star appearance, and his first as a starter.

Kwan played for the Beavers from 2016-18, and Rutschman was at OSU from 2017-19, resulting in a two-year overlap.
