Josh Mahura from St. Albert has agreed to a one-year deal with the Seattle Kraken.

Less than two weeks after celebrating his Stanley Cup victory with the Florida Panthers, defenseman Josh Mahura, originally from St. Albert, has inked a one-year contract with the Seattle Kraken.

Mahura, aged 26, spent the previous two seasons with the Panthers, appearing in all 82 regular-season games during the 2022-2023 season and contributing to 21 playoff matches. However, due to injury and tough competition for ice time, he played in only 30 regular-season games this past year. Despite being healthy, Mahura did not see action during Florida’s playoff run in 2024, which culminated in a Game 7 triumph over the Edmonton Oilers to secure the championship.

The Kraken announced on July 3rd that they had signed the St. Albert-raised player to a one-year, one-way contract worth $775,000. Seattle began its inaugural season in 2021-2022.

 

Mahura was originally drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2016 NHL entry draft in the third round, 85th overall.

In 191 career NHL regular season games he’s registered 10 goals and 35 assists.
