Examining LSU’s 2024–25 Tight End Room in Advance

The LSU offense hardly ever used tight ends in 2023, and it makes sense given the outside threats Kyren Lacy, Brian Thomas Jr., and Malik Nabers pose. This season, as the LSU offense looks to replace the 2,746 yards and 31 touchdowns that the receiving tandem provided, the tight end position will take on new significance. Here is how LSU’s tight end room looks like ahead of the 2024 campaign.

Mason was the initiator. If anyone is ready for a huge season, it’s Taylor, who will once again start at tight end. The domination of Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr. caused Taylor to regress after an amazing first campaign. Taylor has 348 yards on 36 receptions and a score at the end of the 2024 campaign. Taylor had his greatest game with Garrett Nussmeier at quarterback in the ReliaQuest Bowl, pulling in seven catches for 88 yards. That is the biggest sign of success for the forthcoming season.

Although Taylor will play a significant role in the passing offense, his blocking ability is quite valuable. It’s not difficult to envision Taylor as one of the leading contenders for the John Mackey Award, which goes to the best tight end in college football, if he improves this season.
