Rangers intends to pay cash and a player to acquire Hearts attacker Lawrence Shankland.

(July 22) that the Light Blues may try to entice Shankland with a member of their own first team roster in order to sweeten a deal.

The Record claims that although though Shankland, 28, is nearing the end of his Tynecastle deal, Rangers will still need to let go of some players before signing the Scotland striker in order to balance the books.

Who might quit this summer from Rangers?
In order to secure Shankland, Rangers need to generate money, and it appears that some well-known figures may be departing to help with that.

The skipper, James Tavernier, appears to be a strong contender [Sunday Post, July 21, back page]. Steven Gerrard is eager to bring him to Al-Ettifaq, and Trabzonspor is interested in him, so his departure could result in a big financial gain. While it would be unfortunate if Tavernier left, it might be necessary to balance the accounts.

Another player who could be moving is Connor Goldson. Birmingham City and Aris Limassol are taking notice of him [Football Scotland, July 22]. If Goldson finds the proper team, he might still bring in enough money, even though Birmingham would need him to take a pay cut.

Secondly, Ianis Hagi is not part of Philippe Clement’s objectives. In order to finance Shankland’s transfer, Fiorentina’s interest may develop into a £3 million offer [Daily Record, July 22].

Fans may find it difficult to accept these possible departures, but they may be essential to bringing in a top scorer such as Shankland.
