Christie Sides, the head coach of the Indiana Fever, sparks controversy with remarks regarding Caitlin Clark’s shooting

Christie Sides, the head coach of the Indiana Fever, angered WNBA fans on Thursday night by implying that standout rookie Caitlin Clark need to shoot the ball more often.

Her remarks were made following Clark’s nine shots during the Seattle Storms’ 89-77 defeat. She attempted just two field goals in the second half.

“We need Caitlin Clark to attempt at least 15 shots per game. She has to be shot, and we need to set her up better and provide her with some excellent screens so that she becomes more receptive.

This season, Clark has attempted 223 field goals. In the WNBA, that is ranked 11th. Her 11.7 attempts per game, however, is not among the league’s top 15.

Kelsey Mitchell, a teammate, has attempted 245 shots overall, averaging 13.6 attempts per contest.

Supporters held Sides and Clark’s teammates accountable for the sensational rookie’s dearth of shots.

“I’m not sure why we are shocked between Aliyah Boston’s best friend criticizing CC’s play style and NaLyssa yelling, ‘everyone eats.'” Her opponents have neutralized her abilities. One fan tweeted, “All of their whining has morphed into this passive play style.

“You transformed her into Evolutionary Steve Nash when you thought it was all about “paint touches” early in the season when she was doing that. Now you want her to return to the first nine games? Shaddup, said someone else.

Throughout the first nine games of the season, Clark attempted 13.6 field goals on average per contest. But Indiana only prevailed in one of those contests. Despite the fact that Indiana is 6-4 in its last ten games, Clark has made slightly more than ten field goals on average throughout those time.

Something has to give. It also seems like Sides is unsure about the precise nature of that “something.”
