The Hawks stopper has done as good as anyone to date in containing the impact of Nick Daicos when it comes to taggers. Will he be called up to the team again after missing more than two months?

Daicos was limited to just five disposals and one clearance in just over a half an hour against Maginness the previous year, and the Collingwood star’s season was ultimately cut short by a knee injury minutes into the third term.

Because of the excellent work Maginness had done on Daicos, Hawthorn was able to pull off one of the biggest upsets of the 2023 season when it defeated the eventual premier by 32 points, one of seven wins it managed throughout the season.

In his game against Hawthorn and Maginness, Daicos recorded 4.7 AFL Player Ratings points, which was the lowest of the year and the third-lowest of his career. Nevertheless, because of his injury, they only played in 60% of the game.

Hawthorn was forced to call up Maginness for the first meeting between the two teams this season, which ended in an exciting Collingwood victory with Daicos finishing with 26 disposals and three clearances.
