An influential figure in the sector stated that the Tartan Army’s actions during Euro 2024 in Germany “has translated into huge opportunities to promote Scotland as a top tourist destination” and improved the nation’s standing internationally.

The Scottish Tourism Alliance’s chief executive, Marc Crothall, noted the possibility of drawing more tourists to Scotland “from Germany and beyond.”

Furthermore, he expressed his opinion that the Scottish presence in Germany has not only demonstrated “the country’s passion for sports and our ability to host major international events,” but also served as a “showcase” for the finest that Scotland has to offer.

Mr. Crothall stated yesterday: “Scotland is a country full of vibrant, welcoming people who are passionate about their culture, sports, and community. The Tartan Army’s presence at Euro 2024 has proven this.” Their zeal, friendliness, and hospitality have not only improved Scotland’s standing abroad but also brought out the best aspects of our country.

He emphasized Henriette Reker, the Mayor of Cologne,’s “tribute” to the Tartan Army.

On June 19, Ms. Reker posted the following on the social media site X: “Dear Scots, those have been a wonderful couple of days with you.” As mayor, I could not be happier. You are more than welcome to return to Cologne.

“The behavior of the fans has translated into enormous opportunities to promote Scotland as a top tourist destination and showcase the best of what our nation has to offer,” Mr. Crothall stated yesterday. The influence of the fans is evident from the great attention they received in the German media and the appreciation given by the Mayor of Cologne. Some German football fans have even called for an annual friendly match between Germany and Scotland.

“Hopefully, the positive headlines will translate into more German and international tourists visiting Scotland, eager to experience the real friendliness and vibrant culture that our fans have so brilliantly showcased,” he continued.

“Not only have the Euros increased interest in Scotland as a travel destination, but they have also brought attention to the nation’s love of sports and our capacity to host big international events, which will surely draw more opportunities for Scotland to demonstrate its abilities on a global scale.”
