BREAKING NEWS: The Cowboys might replace HC with a “offensive genius.” McCarthy, Mike…

Numerous NFL analysts and experts are examining what different clubs could do to their rosters and coaching staff after February in order to bolster their franchises, even before the NFL offseason officially begins. Many believe that Jerry Jones will leave the Dallas Cowboys and replace head coach Mike McCarthy.

It should go without saying that several names are being proposed as McCarthy’s potential successors. However, one could be superior to the others.

Cowboys ought to consider the “most sought-after coaching candidates.”
Everyone has a favorite when it comes to the future coach of the Dallas Cowboys, and The Landry Hat’s Jerry Trotta has a favorite. He names Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson as his top pick in an article he wrote for the publication on December 12.

“During the previous employment cycle, Johnson was one of the most sought-after coaching prospects. He looked to come to an agreement with the Commanders during a number of interviews, but he was abruptly backed out to return to his position in Detroit, Trotta wrote.

Numbers don’t lie, and Ben Johnson has those on his side. The Detroit Lions, heading into Week 15, rank top in points per game 32.1 and second in yards per game at 394.8.

Partly thanks to those numbers and perhaps other factors, Trotta calls Johnson “one of the top play-callers in the NFL. He’s in the upper-echelon with Andy Reid, Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay.”

“Johnson is the architect of the entire operation,” Trotta said. “He calls the plays and designs the scheme. He’s propelled a very limited quarterback in Jared Goff into the MVP conversation.”

Trotta added that “it’s unlikely that Jerry and Stephen Jones” would hire someone with no previous head coaching experience, but that “Johnson’s offensive genius is exactly what Dallas should target after they made Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb among the highest-paid players at their respective positions.”

Just look at how Goff has flourished under Johnson. He could possibly do the same for Prescott, although one could argue that Prescott is more of a veteran quarterback than Goff, and Johnson could perhaps fit better with more of a rookie.

Mike Vrabel Is Also Associated With The Dallas Cowboys
Mike Vrabel, the former Titans coach, is another name being floated with the Cowboys. NFL analyst Jeremy Fowler claims that Vrabel is a strong contender in a story for ESPN.

According to Fowler, “some around the league have noted the Cowboys as a natural fit [with Vrabel].” “They valued Mike McCarthy’s experience and pedigree, and they could lean that way again, if they decide to make a change at all.”

During his six seasons with the Tennessee Titans, Vrabel finished 54-45. The Titans won the AFC South in 2020 and 2021 and advanced to three playoffs while he was their coach.

The Cowboys are probably not thinking about it at the moment, even if and when they hire a new head coach. The 5-8 team’s next game is Sunday, December 15, against the Panthers.
