BREAKING NEWS: Emma Raducanu, who skipped the Olympics to play in a US competition, loses to Paula Badosa in the quarterfinals of the Washington Open after blowing a lead in a protracted set.

Emma Raducanu played well enough to advance to the quarterfinals, but she lost the last set.
The 21-year-old chose to compete in Washington, USA, instead of the Olympics in Paris.
One half of “Tsitsidosa,” Paula Badosa, fought back to advance to the semi-finals.
Emma Raducanu, who had turned down Team GB and the Olympics to play in the US event, lost to Paula Badosa in a long and grueling quarterfinal in Washington.
After taking a 3-1 lead in the third set, the 21-year-old British player appeared to be close to securing her biggest semi-final since her victory at the US Open three years prior.
However, Badosa rallied in the intense heat to win 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 in just two and a quarter hours.
Rather than in Paris, Raducanu was competing in the WTA 500 event. She is currently working on her recovery after surgeries on her wrist and ankle.
Before making her way back to the US Open, where she captured a remarkable victory in 2021, she refused to return to the Roland Garros clay.
