Cam Jurgens, an offensive lineman, was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft with the intention of replacing center and team legend Jason Kelce.

Considering who the team’s former center was, Jurgens is aware that switching from right guard to center won’t always be easy.

“It’s likely that there will be more bad days than good days at the beginning,” Jurgens recently said, as reported by Brooks Kubena of The Athletic. “And it’s just having the determination and perseverance, and, you know, be the same and have the same mindset going in and not listen to a lot of outside noise.”

During his time as the center for the Eagles from 2011 until his retirement at the end of the 2023–24 season, Kelce not only received seven Pro Bowl selections and six First-Team All-Pro nominations. He was also a vocal leader for a team that has been the focus of worrying rumors about the relationship between head coach Nick Sirianni and quarterback Jalen Hurts, and that supposedly dealt with behind-the-scenes issues during its collapse over the last month and a half of the previous campaign.

Regarding Jurgens, Hurts stated, “He knows I have a lot of confidence in him to do the job and be the player he is.” “He came through for us during crucial times. We had a good game from him last year. He has been prepared. He’s prepared to take the lead in that o-line room, and I have no doubt that those players will rely on him.”

Hurts has apparently already improved in a number of areas of his game while working with Kellen Moore, the new offensive coordinator that took over for Brian Johnson this past winter. To get Hurts back to where he was when he emerged as a regular-season Most Valuable Player Award finalist for the 2022 campaign, Kubena claims that every member of Philadelphia’s offensive line will be responsible for “calling out checks for blitz protections” under Moore’s offensive system.

“I’m learning so much this year and obviously I can tell (Hurts is) learning a lot too,” Jurgens said. It will also be much simpler for us to converse to each other as we develop and get a little more proficient in the offensive. And thus far, so good.”
