Another forward looks set to be signed by Birmingham City in a £1.5m deal.

Birmingham City are reportedly closing in on the signing of Heracles Almelo forward Emil Hansson on a permanent deal.

The former Sweden international contributed five goals and six assists in 24 Eredivisie appearances last season, following on from an impressive 16 goals and 19 assists in 36 Keuken Kampioen Divisie games during the campaign previous.

Swedish publication Expressenreports Birmingham and Heracles have agreed on a fee of around 20 million Swedish Krona (£1.5 million). It’s stated that the player, completing an “unexpected move to England”, will conduct his medical tests in due course.

Hansson is undoubtedly taking a step down in his career but is said to be excited by Birmingham’s ambitions, led by American owner Tom Wagner and NFL legend Tom Brady. Immediate promotion back to the Championship is the expectation for new manager Chris Davies.

At 26 years of age, Hansson is heading into his prime years and should offer Blues guaranteed goal involvements in League One. Last season’s top scorer in the English third tier, Alfie May, will be eager to form a strong partnership Hansson after himself signing.

Hansson transfer continues Birmingham momentum

Blues have started the 2024 summer transfer window excellently. The goalkeeping situation has been sorted after the exits of John Ruddy and Neil Etheridge as Ryan Allsop and Bailey Peacock-Farrell have both joined, while the acquisition of May is a real statement of intent.

Sparta Rotterdam defender Mike Eerdhuijzen was expected to be next through the door at St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park but the deal broke down at the final stages. Reaching an agreement for Eerdhuijzen at all was impressive, though, and suggests Blues are in the market for seasoned professionals.
