Richardson’s 10.71 time is the fastest 100-meter sprint by a woman this year.

Sha’Carri Richardson is officially on her way to Paris to represent her country in the Olympics.

The 24-year-old sprinter for track and field made the cut for the competition on Saturday night with a time of 10.71 seconds for the 100 meters.

According to World Athletics, Richardson’s accomplishment, which she accomplished at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, stood as the quickest women’s time by any woman this year.

After Richardson’s quick move, the runner went down on her knees, hugged Melissa Jefferson, and celebrated with Twanisha Terry. Richardson and Jefferson both qualified for the Olympics in Paris with speeds of 10.80 and 10.89 seconds, respectively.

On August 2, in Paris, Richardson will begin her Olympic career with the commencement of the women’s 100-meter run preliminary round.

Richardson ran a 10.65-second 100-meter time in the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, in August of last year.

Richardson became the fastest woman in America and qualified to compete for gold in the 100 meters in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 after winning the event at the U.S. Olympic trials. Her hopes of competing in the Olympic 100 meters, however, were dashed when it was revealed that her test results for THC, a substance present in marijuana, were positive.

Richardson told reporters at the time that she used marijuana during the Olympic trials in Oregon, which has legalized the substance for recreational use, as a way to cope with the loss of her birth mother. The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency suspended her for 30 days, citing the World Anti-Doping Agency’s ban on cannabis.
