Sources have informed The Real EFL that the club are attempting to hijack fellow relegated side Huddersfield Town’s bid to sign Bristol Rovers midfielder Antony Evans.

More than proven in the EFL already, Evans has put together a string of strong seasons for the Gas. After a standout year during the 2021/22 season, where Rovers would gain promotion to the third tier, Evans has taken the step-up in his stride and is yet to reach his ceiling.

With six goals and six assists last season from midfield for a mid-table side, the 25-year-old could well take his level up a notch with a side chasing automatic promotion. Both Birmingham and Huddersfield will have the same ambition for next season, a return to the Championship at the first time of asking.

Birmingham’s business so far in the window may be enough to tempt Evans however, and the midfielder could thrive at St Andrew’s.

Birmingham have already shown that they are not afraid to splash the cash this window, offering Alfie May a mega deal. With Evans valued by Transfermarkt at around the £500,000 mark, if they put their money on the table, then they could well convince the midfielder to join them rather than their promotion rivals.

A move to either would represent a step-up for the 25-year-old but after coping with the class of League One over the last two seasons, he has proven himself effective at the level. If he is to join the Blues, then their claims as favourites for the League One title will be further enhanced and there’s plenty of hope amongst the fanbase that those claims could come to fruition.
