SAD NEWS: Geelong Faces Injury Worries for Tom Stewart and Lawson Humphries Befor… Read More

On Saturday, the afternoons of two Cats players ended abruptly.
Geelong are confident a hamstring concern for star defender Tom Stewart is on the minor end after the All-Australian backman played less than a half on Saturday against West Coast
Stewart came from the field at Kardinia Park shortly after a marking contest on the wing, with the veteran Cat undergoing assessment on the sidelines for a large period of the second quarter.
Stewart remained on the interchange in the hands of medical staff until the main break before returning to the interchange for the second half with his afternoon finished.
The Cats confirmed Stewart was dealing with tightness and that the decision to rule him out for the second half was a precautionary one.
Fellow defender Lawson Humphries was another concern for the Cats, with his day also finished before half-time with a calf complaint.
Humphries was sidelined midway through the second term and underwent testing on his lower leg before being put on ice to start the third quarter.
The Cats will have close to two weeks until their first final, giving Humphries and Stewart enough time to hopefully overcome their respective setbacks, with coach Chris Scott telling media after Saturday’s win that both players are expected to play in the club’s next game.
Geelong should gain a boost ahead of their first game in September, with premiership duo Sam De Koning (knee) and Tom Hawkins (foot) expected to be available, while forward Gary Rohan was managed for Round 24 and will return.
Veteran midfielder Cam Guthrie (Achilles) and Irishman Mark O’Connor (knee) face less certain timeframes heading into the post-season.
Geelong have secured a top four finish but will await Sunday’s results to see who they will face in the first week of this year’s finals series.
