**Long-Time Spurs Announcer Bill Land Announces Retirement Amidst Cancer Battle**

San Antonio Spurs television play-by-play announcer Bill Land has announced his retirement after a distinguished career. Reflecting on his tenure, Land expressed his gratitude: “I am deeply thankful for the support from the entire Spurs organization and FOX Sports/Bally Sports. I have been fortunate to work with the best production crew in the league and NBA analyst Sean Elliott. As I enter the final phase of my life, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the Spurs fans for their unwavering support, especially during my recent battle with cancer.”

Land, renowned for his memorable “Oh, Mama!” calls, began his journey with the Spurs in 1990 as a fill-in announcer and took on a prominent role in 2003. By 2008, he became the lead play-by-play announcer, a position he held until his recent retirement announcement.

Following a stem cell transplant last summer and a diagnosis of blood cancer, Land’s health led to Dan Weiss joining Sean Elliott on Spurs road trips to allow Land time for treatment.

Mike Kickirillo, Senior Director of Broadcasting for Spurs Sports & Entertainment, commented: “Bill’s joy and passion for the game have made the Spurs’ broadcasts a unique experience for all fans. His iconic voice and character have solidified his place among the Spurs legends. We are incredibly grateful for his over 20 years of dedication and will greatly miss his presence.”
