Talented Attacker to Leave Milan for Free to Monza

Daniel Maldini is primed to leave Milan at the end of his expiring contract and agree to a deal with Monza, where he spent the last six months on loan. He has decided not to re-up with the Rossoneri and transfer on a Bosman deal, Gianluca Di Marzio informed.

The 21-year-old attacker had started the past campaign at Empoli but didn’t earn a regular role after missing a lot of time due to injury early. He switched sides in January and turned his season around, scoring 4 goals in 11 appearances.

Maldini, the son of Paolo and grandson of Cesare, grew up in the Milan academy. He was part of the first team for just one season in 2021/2022. He featured in 24 games and hit the net once. He then moved temporarily to Spezia, where he found the target twice in 18 tilts.

Thanks to the agreement, Monza will retain some continuity on offense, where they lost Valentin Carboni and Alessio Zerbin, who were on loan from Inter and Napoli respectively, and might cash in on Andrea Colpani. Olympique Marseille made waves to acquire the no.10 in the last couple of weeks.

His father’s unceremonious exit might have played a part in the whole thing, but something doesn’t add up as generally players with just a year on their contract don’t go out on loan. Perhaps there’s a sort of wink-wink deal with the Rossoneri, which will let him go in exchange for something down the line, maybe a re-sale clause.
