SC Cambuur, an Eerste Divisie team, has formally announced the signing of their ninth summer player as they aim to resurrect their success in the league. This time, they have improved their midfield by adding Maikel Kieftenbeld, a former Millwall and Birmingham City player. Kieftenbeld began his playing career with the Go Ahead Eagles, where he played for the first time as a senior in 2008–09. The Dutchman was signed by FC Groningen in 2010, and he played for the team for five seasons before moving to Birmingham City. Before joining Millwall, Maikel Kieftenbeld had an amazing run in the West Midlands, making 183 appearances over the course of six seasons.

He spent the previous two years at FC Emmen, but following a couple of largely disappointing seasons, he moved to Cambuur.
