NBA Hall of Famer Claims JJ Redick and Larry Bird Would “Mop” the Floor

Mitch Richmond, a Hall of Famer, has heard about all the videos on the Internet with supporters declaring they are “over the ’90s.”

It’s a movement that asserts that players from the past are not able to compete in the modern game. Michael Jordan allegedly would have trouble competing with the new school. LeBron James, in their opinion, would rule the 1980s.

Richmond refers to it as trash.

Richmond stated, “I think it’s very disrespectful, no question about it,” during a Back In The Day Hoops On SI interview. “I don’t see many players giving it the disrespect but I think the fans in this generation, more so, of saying they’re done with the `80s and `90s, don’t respect what was before them.”

Players who criticized the past, like as Gilbert Arenas and JJ Redick, particularly offended Richmond. Redick has been criticizing Larry Bird in the last few years. Bird wasn’t among the top five 3-point shooters in NBA history, according to Redick, who is currently the coach of the Los Angeles Lakers.

Bird participated in games before 3-pointers became commonplace.

“I’ve heard a couple of players like JJ Redick say something stupid about the players,” Richmond stated. “I just think it’s idiotic to always disrespect the people who came before you.”

As for Bird vs. Redick, Richmond said it’s not even close.

“Bird would mop him up like it was no other,” Richmond said. “I just think it’s really disrespectful. I enjoy today’s game. We all get too much of the barber shop talk … I just think let’s enjoy the generation of what we’re seeing now.”
