REPORT: Mönchengladbach revelation gives Milan boost in Koné pursuit

Borussia Mönchengladbach sporting director Roland Virkus has confirmed that midfielder Kamu Koné has asked to leave the club, amidst links with a potential move to Milan.

Football Italia reported last week that Koné was a player of particular interest to the Rossoneri management after impressing during his three-year spell in the Bundesliga.

Milan are on the lookout for a new midfielder, and had submitted an offer to Monaco for Frenchman Youssouf Fofana, but they have since been outbid by Premier League outfit West Ham.

A number of other names including Koné, Lazar Samardzic, Johnny Cardoso and Sofyan Ambrabat have since been mentioned as possible alternatives.

Though he was not willing to give up any recent updates, Gladbach director Virkus recently told German outlet Kicker: “Manu told us quite early on that he wants to leave the club, but there are no updates.”

The midfielder, who is in France’s squad for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, has two seasons remaining on his current contract in Germany. That deal is set to expire in June 2026.

Koné is reportedly valued in the region of €20m, according to Calciomercato. That figure seems to be the sweet spot for Milan, who are close to tying up a deal for Strahinja Pavlovic for a similar amount.

The same can also be said for 2022-23 additions Yunus Musah, Christian Pulisic, Samuel Chukwueze, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Tijjani Reijnders.
