SAD NEWS: NCAA transfer portal results in the loss of LSU women’s basketball team’s freshman point guard.

According to a source on Monday, LSU women’s basketball freshman Angelica Velez has logged into the NCAA transfer site.

In the 2023 recruiting class, ESPN placed 5-foot-7 point guard Velez of the Bronx, New York, as the No. 44 talent. She appeared in 23 games her freshman year, but she only played 111 total minutes.

She was one of four players—Mikaylah Williams, Aalyah Del Rosario, Janae Kent, and herself—that LSU signed to its top-ranked freshmen class.

Velez has become the second Tiger this offseason to access the transfer site. Hailey Van Lith, the starting point guard, made the decision to transfer on Thursday, following just one season in Baton Rouge.

LSU has only added one transfer player thus far. It signed 6-foot-5 forward Jersey Wolfenbarger in March after she played her first two seasons at Arkansas.
