The Buffalo Bills, the most recent NFL team to encourage LGBTQ athletes, are assisting in the founding of a new local homosexual flag football league.

A new LGBTQ flag football league is being started in the area with assistance from the Buffalo Bills. The Buffalo-based league, which is being started in tandem with the National Gay Flag Football League, is being sponsored by the team.

With the Buffalo Bills’ help, we are excited to introduce inclusive flag football to Buffalo. “With this exciting addition, the National Gay Flag Football League now has over 4,000 players, including straight allies, from 27 other cities,” NGFFL Commissioner Joel Horton stated.

The NFL team that has shown support for a local LGBTQ flag football league is the Bills. The Boston league and the New England Patriots have a long history together. Another local LGBTQ flag football league that the Los Angeles Rams assisted in launching. Some teams, such as the Seattle Seahawks and New York Giants, have been major backers of their respective local leagues.

“We are thrilled to support the NGFFL alongside the NFL and other teams in the league,” stated Michelle Roberts, vice president of community impact for the Buffalo Bills. “We hope to increase the NGFFL’s influence in our community through our sponsorship.”

Major sports simply never stop dedicating themselves to fostering inclusive initiatives for the gay population, regardless of how loudly anti-gay groups continue to criticize the LGBTQ community and Pride.

Prior to the creation of the NGFFL, a national gay flag football league debuted in 2002 with the Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Boston Gay Bowl, which was held in Southern California. A second Gay Bowl featuring Atlanta, Chicago, and San Diego was held in San Francisco a few months later. Soon, the NGFFL was established.

The NFL is becoming more interested in flag football and using it to increase their fan base for football.
