Breaking news: American 16-year-old Quincy Wilson shattering the 400-meter world under-18 record
At the youthful age of 18, American sports sensation Quincy Wilson has already pushed the envelope in the 400-meter race.
At a contest in Florida, American sprinter Quincy Wilson shattered the 400-meter World U18 Record with an incredible speed of 44.20 seconds, once again shattering previous records.
Wilson, 16, has broken his personal record three times this year, confirming his place among the most promising young athletes in track and field.
Quincy Wilson becomes a part of history
Under the lights at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Wilson battled against some of the best professional runners in the country in an exhilarating show.
In a race that featured several personal bests, Wilson’s remarkable speed and endurance were on full show as he gained ground on second-place finisher Bryce Deadmon in the latter stages.
Matthew Boling stood out among the rivals, finishing third in 44.84 seconds, a personal best.
With this most recent accomplishment, Wilson has significantly improved upon his previous personal best of 44.59 seconds, which he recorded in the Eugene, Oregon, Olympic Trials semifinals.
The young athlete’s growth has been nothing short of amazing; during those trials, he broke the under-18 world record twice, and he ultimately placed sixth.
Wilson’s success this year has placed him sixth in the world among 400-meter runners, which is remarkable for a junior in high school.
Due to his time, he has been selected for the Team USA relay pool at the next Olympics in Paris. There, he will compete in the 4×400-meter relay alongside the top three Trials finishers and the next three quickest competitors.
Wilson, a student at Potomac, Maryland’s Bullis School, has already drawn interest from big sponsors and signed a NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) contract with New Balance.
