Former Birmingham City manager seeking to take over as England manager from Gareth Southgate..

Following their loss in the Euro 2024 final, Gareth Southgate opted to resign down as manager of England, and the team is now looking for a new manager.

Former Birmingham City manager Lee Carsley is a contender to take over as England manager from Gareth Southgate.

Two days after Spain defeated England in the 2024 Euro final, Southgate announced his resignation. Now, England has lost the last two European Championship games.

Under Southgate’s leadership, the Three Lions have advanced to both the 2018 World Cup semifinals and the Qatar quarterfinals two years prior. Southgate hasn’t been able to break England’s trophy curse, though.

He will now relinquish control, and Carsley—who has led England’s under-21 team for the past three years—is among the early favorites to take over as head of the senior team. The 9/4 second favorite to replace Southgate is Carsley.

Carsley led the under-21 team to victory in the Euros last year, with help from Blues coach Ashley Cole. The former Blues midfielder, who had first joined the team to coach the development team, had a taste of management in 2017 when he took an interim position at St Andrew’s.

The favorite to succeed Southgate is Graham Potter, another former Blues player. Potter is 11/8 to take over as England’s next manager, while Eddie Howe, the manager of Newcastle, is valued at 5/2.

Since Fabio Capello was fired in 2012, England has not had an international manager; nonetheless, Mauricio Pochettino, Jurgen Klopp, and Thomas Tuchel are also contenders. Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, is an outsider at 16/1.
