BREAKING NEWS:DUCATI ACCEPTS THAT HIS REACTION TO THE MARQUEZ MOTOGP DECISION WAS “DIVISIVE”
According to Ducati, some have criticized the choice to select Marc Marquez over Jorge Martin for its factory MotoGP squad in 2025.
Ducati claims that the Italian public’s reaction to its intention to recruit Marc Marquez for its factory MotoGP team in 2025 has been “divisive.”
The brand has acknowledged that it has faced some backlash for selecting six-time champion Marquez rather than Jorge Martin to be Francesco Bagania’s teammate in the upcoming campaign.
First, as part of a larger plan that included Marquez riding a factory-spec bike at Pramac, Ducati had focused on replacing last year’s runner-up Martin, Enea Bastianini. However, the latter’s unwillingness to join Paolo Campinoti’s team completely changed the situation, causing Ducati to rescind its first choice and elevate Marquez from Gresini.
The team’s long-term ties with Martin and Pramac have suffered as a result of the 31-year-old’s arrival, despite the fact that he has a huge competitive and marketing advantage.
Claudio Domenicali, the CEO of Ducati, is aware that not everyone has agreed with its decision; Martin, for example, was passed over for the seat after repeatedly demonstrating his value to Pramac since his MotoGP debut in 2021.
“It was a very difficult choice for us, because we love Jorge very much,” he stated.
Thus, Marc or Jorge had to be chosen. Jorge is a really strong man who has been with us for a long time. It was really challenging. If it was the right decision or not, only time will tell.
Because of his background and what transpired in the past, Marc’s decision has caused a great deal of division, particularly in Italy compared to other countries.
“From what I’ve read, nobody doubts his talent, but a few have very distinct ideas about his background.”
Undoubtedly, Ducati’s acquisition of Marquez is a major coup, but it may find itself less competitive in the coming season than its rivals.
First of all, there will be two fewer bikes on the grid as Pramac will become a Yamaha satellite team in 2025, ending a 20-year collaboration. Second, Bastianini will also depart the Ducati fold entirely in favor of a move to Tech3 KTM, while current VR46 rider Marco Bezzecchi will join Martin at Aprilia next year.
When asked if the Ducati-initiated rider market shift had made the opposition stronger, Domenicali responded, “We hope not, in the sense that we need the riders, the bike, and the technique.” You must appropriately dosage your energy.
With reference to Ducati cutting back on its spending during a period when competitors have offered large contracts to entice its riders, Domenicali continued, “There is also a general problem of sustainability of this environment; several manufacturers are making choices that, in my opinion, are not sustainable.”
We take tremendous care to guarantee that the families, the enterprise, and the races at Borgo Panigale are all one. weighing the costs associated with developing the bike against those associated with the riders.
