Birmingham Stallions, the former football scapegoat from Auburn, win the championship.

On June 16, the Birmingham Stallions defeated the San Antonio Brahmas 25-0 to win their first-ever UFL Championship and their third consecutive spring league championship. This victory followed their victories in the USFL in 2022 and 2023. Driven by an attack that included former Auburn football offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery as co-OC, Birmingham won easily thanks to touchdown passes from quarterback Adrian Martinez early in the second half and Gary Jennings late in the first half.

In less than a year, Montgomery moved from being the team’s blame for the fan base during the 2023 season—a 6-7 team—to a champion, and he didn’t even have to leave Alabama.

To be honest, there were valid complaints from the fan base regarding Montgomery’s offensive. While he was in charge of the offense, he did not use his trademark RPO, which he regularly used against Tulsa. Hugh Freeze took over play-calling responsibilities, which is when Payton Thorne’s scrambling became a serious weapon in the Tigers’ attack.
