BREAKING NEWS: Former Birmingham City striker and Aston Villa striker takes Championship job

Rudy Gestede, a striker for Aston Villa acquired from Blackburn Rovers in the summer of 2015, scored ten goals in just eighteen months.
At Aston Villa, the summer of 2015–16 proved to be crucial. After a really miserable time at Villa Park, they only realized years later that they were on the correct track when they saw players like Jordan Veretout, Jordan Ayew, Idrissa Gueye, and others all thrive at different teams. By then, it was too late, and their time in the Premier League was ended by that recruitment effort at that precise moment.
Towering target man Rudy Gestede was one such player who, in a season that was particularly tough for a Villa front line that scored just 27 Premier League goals, did at least make a noteworthy contribution. Gestede, who joined from Blackburn Rovers, where he had scored 22 goals the season before, scored on his debut in a victory over Bournemouth, who had just been promoted, and twice in a loss to Liverpool.
After that, Gestede brought some much-needed respite to everyone involved in what had otherwise been an agonizing campaign when he scored a header to win the League Cup match between Birmingham City and the Second City derby at Villa Park. The Benin international scored six goals in all competitions that year and four more in the first half of their inaugural season in the Championship before moving to Middlesbrough during the winter of 2017.
After winning promotion with Cardiff City in 2013, the striker went on an interesting global journey and eventually retired. He played for Panetolikos in Greece, Melbourne Victory in Australia, and Esteghlal in Iran before finishing his career. Gestede announced his retirement from football last summer, but it was only a temporary break as he is confirmed to return to Blackburn this summer in a non-playing role.
